Insulin is a hormone produced in the pancreas and is released into the blood in response to food. (Interestingly, it’s sufficient with only the thought of carbohydrates to induce insulin secretion!)
When food breaks down in our digestive system, the insulin signals to the body to: 1) burn glucose for energy, 2) use aminoacids for muscle restoration, 3) store fatty acids in the adipose tissue.
– In short insulin sorts “everything into place”, a bit like ourselves when we come home with shopping and put the milk in the refrigerator, canned food in the cupboard, and fruits in the bowl.
But what happens when insulin is not cooperating?
