“So what do you eat?”

… is a common question after a short explanation on the principles of LCHF.

“Food”, is the immediate answer. 😉

It seems that a lot of people are so accustomed to set menus from dietitians and counting calories that without precise amounts they don’t know what and when to eat. But that’s the beauty of LCHF! There are no strict rules that has to be followed. Everyone and hers or his body! True, there are principles such as no sugars, grains, and starches, or not to fear fat, but other than that, you can eat whatever you want, whenever you want and the quantity you want.

Sounds too good to be true? Well, yes, there are some restrictions. If you already have problems, otherwise there aren’t any. Your body will tell you.

For example: Do you already have diabetes? Then you should pay attention to what types of vegetables and how much you eat. Do you have problems to feel sated? Then you should put a measured serving on your plate and eat only that. At the next meal you can adjust the quantity depending on how hungry you are. Are you addicted to sugar or wheat? Then you should pay close attention to what foods cause excessive cravings and of course try to avoid them as much as possible. And so on …

But if you’re healthy – Take off the heavy carbohydrates, the margarine and other processed food, and you’ve taken a big step for your health.

“Still, give a menu example”, is generally the following comment …

How about:

  • Breakfast – Eggs in butter with cheese and vegetables
  • Lunch – Meat, poultry, or fish with a fatty sauce and vegetables
  • Dinner – Like the breakfast or lunch, whatever you prefer
  • Drink water, tea, or coffee (try with a little cream)
  • And if you fancy a little something between meals then some nuts (the good kinds) or olives are a good snack

In short, not particularly complicated. After all, it’s eating the regular stuff just without the mashed potatoes, the Majadera (rice & lentils), or the corn salad. Oh, and you don’t drink Coke, not even diet.

And what I eat? Food! 😉

    i have been eating LCHF for the past year or so.. very similar to ‘what do you eat’. i also snack on a variety of nuts, but in addition – 100% chocolate (chocolate with no sugar added). It takes a little getting used to, but it seems that chocolate has its own bit of natural sweetness. My family also started eating this instead of the normal highly sweetened ‘bittersweet’ chocolate. In Israel, i recommend the ‘holy cocoa’ brand – delicious!.

      Yes, the “Holy Cacao” is a very good brand. Even the 100% is kind of mild (IMO).
